I have the third elephant done of the 24 required for the Appliquéd Elephants quilt. The process is getting a bit easier. While not perfect, I am able to manipulate the fabric so the curves are smoother, and I’ve learned to be more patient about it. I am making these blocks over five sessions. For the first session, I glue baste the raw edges under. I spend two sessions whipstitching the elephant down, and one session each for the ear and he tail. Although it is tempting to do it in fewer sessions, keeping the whip stitches somewhat even requires concentration. When my concentration starts to wane, I know it is time to stop.
Nevertheless, feeling more confident in my abilities, I listed three elephant blocks for my October goals as opposed to two blocks for September.
Her are the other two members of my slowly growing herd:

They are so cute!
Thank you!
Love your elephants, they are beautiful!
Thanks so much, Karrin!
You did an excellent job with those appliqué elephants. I would never even attempt that. I love the top one with the William Mars fabric and a wild and crazy butterfly one is great too.
Thanks so much! The William Mars fabric is a favorite of mine too.
These fabrics are wonderful for the elephants!!
Thanks so much! Choosing fabrics is one of my favorite parts of the process.
Your elephants look really cute. That is quite a herd of elephants you have planned!
Thanks so much, Bonnie!
I have a soft spot for elephants and yours are very cute.
Thanks so much, Karen. So do I.
Lovely elephants! I don’t do much applique, but do know smooth curves are much harder to achieve than it seems to look at them!
Thank you!
Hi Michelle! These elephants are just breathtakingly beautiful. Each one of them is better than the next but if you forced me to pick a favorite . . . hmm, let me see . . . the black flowered one with the red ear and tail. So you have only 21 more to do. The whole process does get easier, doesn’t it?! I’m glad you found the To-Do Tuesday linkup now that it’s moved, and thank you for linking up today! ~smile~ Roseanne
Thank you so much, Roseanne! I’ll admit, the black butterflies with red ears is my favorite of the 3 I’ve made. And yes, the process is getting easier! Thanks for hosting!
Your elephants are so fun and happy! I’m enjoying seeing your herd grow!
Thank you, Diann!
Each elephant is cuter than the next!
Awwww…, thank you!
They are amazingly beautiful, Michelle! 🙂

Thanks so much, Susan!
The elephants look great! This is going to be a really fun quilt.
Thanks so much, Mary!
#3 looks great.DH calls that assembly line sewing. For large quilts it’s helpful keeping all the pieces straight if you have a working plan. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
Thanks so much, Denise!
You’re making such progress! Congratulations! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
